Like many members of our Texas community, the extreme cold weather of last week had a significant impact at Helping Hand Home for Children. Due to icy and unsafe conditions, many staff members spent the entire week on campus to ensure that the children were provided uninterrupted 24/7 care. Sleeping in offices or in nearby hotels, our amazing direct care staff prioritized the needs of our vulnerable population, leaving their families and homes indefinitely until Texas began to thaw. On top of risky travel conditions, Helping Hand Home also had to navigate extended loss of power. Several of our staff slept on campus in freezing dark offices- a testament to our selfless and caring direct care team at the Home. . .
